
Port Privatization, Mergers and Acquisitions
Seaport Consultants Canada Inc. has been involved in port and terminal privatization since its inception. One of Seaport's first projects was a build-operate-transfer (BOT) container terminal project in Indonesia in 1994. In 2006 to early 2008, Seaport participated in some way in most sales of port terminal assets and port concession projects in North America.
Seaport offers the following "sell-side" services:
Review of existing ports, evaluation of port improvements to increase salability and development of strategies for privatization
Development of overall privatization processes
Development of concession agreements and tender documents
Preparation of lists of prospective bidders and pre-qualification criteria
Development of selection criteria for shortlists and assistance with selection of bidders.
Development of evaluation criteria for proposal evaluation and assistance with evaluation of proposals.
Seaport offers the following services to purchasers of port and port terminal assets:
Preliminary SWOT evaluations at the information memorandum stage to determine if a bid is worthwhile.
Evaluation and compilation of data room information, site visits and other data gathering relevant to the asset for sale.
General commercial due diligence:
- Market reviews
- SWOT analyses
- Review of company management and operations
- Evaluation of company contracts with shipping lines and other customers
- Tariff competitiveness
