In connection with a major volume expansion of the City Deep Rail Terminal, south of Johannesburg, Seaport Innovations was invited to assist in the development of the master plan and the detailed terminal design. Seaport Innovations provided the following services:

• Redesigning the terminal layout, and provided in this connection layout designs and reach stacker and RTG operation.

• Redesigning the operations processes and procedures to prepare the operation for implementing new terminal operating system (TOS).

• Designing processes for the automated gate systems, truck appointment/booking and rail booking systems.

The challenge was to achieve a significant increase in volume capacity without increasing the yard area and considering processes and procedures feasible to implement in the specific environment.
