tsmyth@seaport.comTerence Smyth, the founder of Seaport Consultants Canada Inc., is a maritime economist and management consultant with over 35 years of experience in the evaluation of port, other transport and resource projects. He has managed and conducted feasibility studies of ocean transportation, shipping terminals, railways, coal and industrial mineral mines, pulp and paper mills, manufacturing plants, and computer system installations.
His experience includes port market studies and traffic forecasts, market surveys for industrial commodities, development of models for economic and financial analyses, and reviews of industrial technology. He has also provided litigation support in the port sector as an expert witness in several cases. Mr. Smyth has been responsible for projects in North America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and the Pacific Islands.. He has conducted many projects funded by the international development banks.
Mr. Smyth has developed particular expertise in the "buy" and "sell" sides of port asset transactions. He has developed privatization strategies for ports and procedures and documents for port privatization tenders. He has provided commercial due diligence on a number of transactions that involved container and break-bulk terminals and companies.
Mr. Smyth has a bachelors degree in engineering from the University of British Columbia and a masters degree in economics from Stanford University. He is a Professional Engineer (British Columbia), a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) and a member of the Association of Professional Consultants of B.C., the Canadian Association for Business Economics and the International Association of Maritime Consultants.
